Humboldt County planners are set to consider Carlotta Gardens, LLC’s request to expand cannabis cultivation in the Carlotta area to a total of 70,000 square feet.
According to the Planning Commission agenda for Thursday’s meeting, the proposal would add 20,000 square feet of outdoor cultivation to the property’s existing 20,000 square feet of mixed-light cultivation and 30,000 square feet of outdoor cultivation. The item also seeks an additional 1,300 square feet of nursery space, and says the project’s power would be provided by PG&E.
Staff is recommending a split outcome: deny the applicant’s request for an exception to the requirement that cultivation be fully enclosed, but approve the conditional use permits subject to conditions of approval.
The agenda says the commission will consider the project’s final environmental review for the Commercial Cannabis Land Use Ordinance and an addendum prepared for the Carlotta Gardens project. It also lists an exception request tied to the Hydesville-Carlotta Community Planning Area and a separate CUP request for cultivation there.
The meeting agenda does not spell out the staff’s full reasoning for denying the enclosure exception, and the meeting record reviewed so far does not show any commission vote or public hearing testimony on the item. The project is listed for the Planning Commission’s May 21 regular meeting in Eureka.
