The Ferndale City Council is weighing a proposed $44,940 contract to resurface the Fireman’s Park basketball court and build an ADA-accessible pathway from the parking area to the court. The Oct. 21 council packet recommends awarding the work to DelBiaggio Construction Inc., doing business as DCI Builders, subject to final verification of the bid and contract requirements.
Six bids were publicly opened Oct. 13, according to the city manager’s report. DCI Builders submitted the lowest bid, at $44,940, compared with an engineer’s estimate of $45,544. Other bids listed in the packet ranged from $68,260 to $87,815.
The project is tied to Ferndale’s Per Capita Grant Program. The packet says the city plans to use its remaining grant funding for eligible expenses, but additional money will be needed to cover the balance. The city manager said the city would contact local organizations about potential contributions.
The council packet also recommends scheduling a special meeting during the first week of November to further review a grant award through PG&E’s Microgrid Incentive Program and decide whether Ferndale should formally accept it. City staff said the council needs more time to discuss the proposed project’s scope, financial obligations, implementation requirements and potential long-term responsibilities. Representatives from OurEnergy may be invited to answer questions about the project and grant requirements.
Neither the Fireman’s Park contract award nor formal acceptance of the microgrid grant is established by the packet. The contract remains a council action item, and the proposed special-meeting timing is subject to council availability.
