The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider whether to allocate approximately $10,000 annually — or another amount determined by the board — to a qualified nonprofit providing low-cost spay and neuter services to county residents. The proposal is sponsored by Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell and appears under matters initiated by the board on the supervisors’ Nov. 3 agenda.
The proposed direction would have county staff develop a funding agreement focused on increasing the number of available procedures. The agreement would include performance and expenditure reporting and, where feasible, seek matching funds or other leveraged resources, according to the agenda.
The item also calls for staff to work with the selected provider to evaluate dedicated appointment capacity for county-supported procedures, such as designated clinic days or a guaranteed number of appointments. Staff would return to the board as necessary with an agreement and any budget adjustments needed to implement the program.
The agenda does not identify a nonprofit provider or funding source, and it does not include a vote or approval of funding. The board’s discussion and any action on the proposal are scheduled for Nov. 3.
