The California State Personnel Board on June 18 approved revised Nurse Consultant Series specifications for four classes, updating the statewide qualification framework for the nursing classification.
According to the board’s meeting materials, the revisions apply to Nurse Consultant I, Nurse Consultant II, Nurse Consultant III (Specialist) and Nurse Consultant III (Supervisor). CalHR said the changes were needed to implement the board’s April 13, 2023 Resolution and Order in Case No. 22-0031N, which found the prior minimum qualifications too narrow because they relied too heavily on NLN accreditation.
The revised specifications keep the existing class structure, while updating minimum qualifications and duty statements, according to the board summary. The materials say the action carries statewide implications for nursing hiring and classification standards across state departments.
Public comment included support for the nurse consultant revisions from Alyssa Shannon, the meeting materials show.
The board adopted the action at its June 18 teleconference meeting. The minutes and summary available in the record do not provide a vote tally for the nurse consultant item.
