Redding says construction on the Westside Road over Canyon Hollow Creek Bridge Replacement Project is scheduled to begin June 8, with traffic control measures expected in mid-to-late June.
In a June 5 release, the city said the $4.8 million project is funded 88% through the Federal Highway Bridge Program, with the remaining share covered by City Transportation Impact Fees. The city said local contractor J.F. Shea will build the project through its Redding division.
The Westside Road work is the latest step in a bridge program the city says began in 2010, when staff submitted 10 federal funding applications for local bridge rehabilitation or replacement. Two of those projects were later eliminated, leaving eight eligible bridges. The city said two projects have been completed so far — Sharon Avenue over the Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District canal and Old Alturas Road over Churn Creek — and a third, Eastside Road over Olney Creek, is still under construction.
Additional information on lane closures and other traffic impacts will be released as construction progresses, the city said.
