Shasta County staff are asking supervisors to direct them to rescind the county’s opposition to Senate Bill 1010 after the measure was substantially amended.
A staff report for the Aug. 11 Board of Supervisors meeting says SB 1010 was previously opposed when it was part of the county’s April 21 legislative package, under its earlier title, “Solid waste: Refrigerant Stewardship and Recovery Act.” The bill is now titled “Hazardous waste: major appliances: recycling.”
According to the report, Senator Angelique Ashby’s office contacted the county after the original opposition letter was sent and explained that the revised bill now focuses on the Department of Toxic Substance Control’s enforcement and application process for its Certified Appliance Recycler program. Staff concluded those changes addressed the concerns that led to the county’s earlier opposition.
The report says supervisors could also choose not to rescind the letter, revise it or defer the matter. It also says the recommendation has been reviewed by the County Administrative Office and would not create any additional General Fund impact.
