Arcata City Council is set to revisit an artificial intelligence policy on its Aug. 5 agenda after the council tabled an earlier version at its July 15 meeting.
The revised item is Resolution No. 267-03, which would approve the city’s administrative policy on artificial intelligence, according to the Aug. 5 agenda packet. Supporting material says the policy would bar deepfakes, restrict the use of confidential information and original artwork in AI tools, and require labeling of AI-generated public content.
The packet also says the policy was brought back after the July 15 meeting tabled the earlier draft and directed staff to return with revisions. The August packet does not show the council’s final action on the revised version.
If adopted, the policy would set the city’s first formal rules for staff use of AI, including guardrails around sensitive information and public-facing content. The packet says there would be no fiscal impact.
The city’s Aug. 5 agenda and related staff reports are posted in the meeting packet, and the July 15 minutes are included in the same packet.
