Arcata’s City Council formally adopted the Humboldt County Regional Climate Action Plan as the city’s own Climate Action Plan during its May 6 meeting, approving Resolution No. 256-51 and making CEQA findings as a responsible agency, according to the meeting summary.
The staff presentation identified the county as the lead agency for the regional plan and said Humboldt County had certified the final environmental impact report. Councilmember Schaefer made the motion to adopt the resolution, and the measure passed by voice vote after public comment.
Emily Benvy of the city’s environmental services and community development staff presented the item with Community Development Director David Loya. Public commenters including Colin Fisk of the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities and Carly Tambling spoke in support of the plan, while Joanna McGarry raised questions during the meeting’s public comment period.
The adopted action gives Arcata a formal climate-policy framework tied to the county regional plan, but the record reviewed for this story does not spell out implementation costs, staffing, timelines or enforcement mechanisms.
