The Arcata School District board approved its 2025-26 unaudited actuals with a Special Reserve ending balance of $4,117,256, equal to 36.31% of the district’s reserve, according to the adopted Sept. 14 board minutes.

Business Manager Travis West told trustees that the unaudited figures received a final review from the Humboldt County Office of Education. He said excess General Fund revenue was due in part to expenditures budgeted in restricted resources being covered by bond money, the minutes state.

The board also approved a resolution authorizing Arcata School District to file applications for the State Allocation Board-administered Small School District Program. West said the district planned to apply Nov. 2 and that the program was established for modernization after passage of Proposition 2. The minutes do not state how much the district is seeking or whether it has received an award.

During a facilities and construction update, Superintendent Luke Biesecker said summer maintenance would cost close to $800,000 because of rot repairs. He also said the district planned walk-throughs with contractors CleekCo and Adams to finish punch-list work. The minutes do not identify all affected facilities or provide a detailed repair-cost breakdown.

Trustees separately approved using Measure B funds to purchase an equipment shed for Arcata Elementary School. Biesecker said two sheds had to be relocated during construction of a new transitional-kindergarten classroom and playground, and that one was too deteriorated to keep using. The board record does not include the replacement shed’s cost or construction schedule.
