The California State Water Resources Control Board voted 5-0 on Aug. 19 to adopt emergency regulations for Lead and Copper Rule Improvements under Resolution 2026-0031, according to the board’s Aug. 18-19 meeting minutes.
The action came under the board’s Division of Drinking Water. Michelle Frederick, Wes Stieringer-Sisneros, Darrin Polhemus, Emily Roberts and David Rice presented the item, which included proposed emergency regulations and a response to comments. Megan Murphy of the California Municipal Utilities Association commented on the item, the minutes say.
The minutes do not specify the regulations’ effective date or duration, which water systems are covered, or requirements for testing, service-line work, customer notification, reporting or enforcement. Those details will require review of the adopted regulatory text and any emergency-filing notice or implementation guidance from the State Water Board’s Division of Drinking Water.
