The California Energy Commission approved a $5.608 million grant Oct. 19 for Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority charging infrastructure at two Los Angeles sites. The consent-calendar action passed 4-0, according to the commission’s business-meeting transcript.

The grant, detailed in the CEC’s project packet, covers 10 direct-current fast-charging ports and 22 Level 2 ports for electric buses and non-revenue fleet vehicles. Division 18 is allocated $5 million for eight fast-charging ports. Division 10 is allocated $608,000 for two fast-charging ports and 22 Level 2 ports.

The project is tied in part to transportation needs associated with the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. The proposed agreement, ZVI-26-007, runs through March 31, 2029. Its scope includes design and engineering, equipment procurement, installation and commissioning, as well as charger reliability, utilization and greenhouse-gas reporting. The grant packet says utilization reporting will continue for at least three years after the chargers become operational, while reliability reporting will continue for six years.

The available CEC records do not identify the facilities’ street addresses or construction milestones. They also do not include the executed agreement, so procurement and in-service dates remain to be confirmed with LA Metro.
