The Eureka City Council voted 5-0 on Oct. 20 to approve a cooperative-purchasing contract for a new Carson Park playground, moving the project from proposal to authorized purchase.

Under the council’s agenda recommendation, the city will purchase and install the playground through Landscape Structures using Sourcewell Competitive Purchasing Contract No. 101725-LSI. The listed purchase-and-installation price is $126,480.75, with authorization for up to $12,648 in contingencies, for a stated not-to-exceed amount of $139,128.83.

A Kiwanis Club of Henderson Center representative told the council that the group had fundraised for about a year and a half and had reached a $150,000 project budget. The agenda says the club’s donation will be paid directly to Landscape Structures on the city’s behalf. The meeting recording shows the council approving the staff recommendation after the discussion.

The city has not yet clarified in the available records why the Kiwanis-reported budget differs from the agenda’s contract amount and contingency total. The final executed contract or adopted minutes would establish the final authorized amount and installation schedule.
