Humboldt County supervisors are scheduled to consider a large behavioral health funding package Tuesday that would pair intergovernmental agreements with the California Department of Health Care Services and supplemental budgets totaling more than $17.3 million.
According to the agenda, the Department of Health and Human Services — Behavioral Health is seeking approval of intergovernmental agreements with DHCS regarding the transfer of public funds for the period of July 1, 2023 through Dec. 31, 2026. The item also calls for a fiscal year 2026-27 supplemental budget of $16,602,644 for DHHS Behavioral Health and $792,178 for Substance Use Disorder.
The board packet says supervisors would also waive the county’s nuclear-free ordinance for the agreements, authorize the behavioral health director or a designee to execute the contracts, and allow future amendments and similar agreements after review by County Counsel, Risk Management and the County Administrative Office.
The agenda summary does not spell out the underlying funding streams, the specific services the money would support or whether the agreements carry any local match or other fiscal conditions. It also does not show whether the board approved the item at meeting time.
The behavioral health package is one of several large fiscal actions on the Sept. 15 agenda, alongside a sheriff’s office remodel contract, a proposed county property purchase in Eureka and other budget transfers.
