Eureka City Council on Tuesday unanimously accepted a $2.875 million Balay Ko Foundation donation tied to a shelter and interim housing project at 16 Second Street.
According to the council agenda, the donation acceptance item called for $2,875,355, while a separate acquisition item listed a $370,000 purchase of the 16 2nd Street property and a proposed 50-year deed restriction limiting the site to affordable or interim housing use. The agenda also said the project funding would cover the property purchase, modular units and site preparation.
In the meeting transcript, councilmember Scott Bauer moved the donation item, and the council approved it. City staff said the project was being coordinated with the foundation and with social services manager Jeff Davis.
The agenda materials do not make clear whether the property acquisition itself was fully completed at the meeting or remains pending, but they show the council taking a concrete step toward the shelter plan. The same agenda also included a modular construction purchase and other housing-related items.
A recording of the meeting is available through the city’s agenda packet and meeting video, including the agenda and the meeting video.
