Marysville Joint Unified School District’s Sept. 8 board agenda includes a vote to adopt the district’s 2026-27 Gann Limit and recalculate the prior year limit, along with a request to file for an exemption from California’s minimum classroom spending requirement.
According to the agenda, the district’s 2025-26 classroom compensation expenditure percentage finished at 54.14%, below the 55% minimum for unified districts. The packet says the resulting deficiency was $1,401,519.63 and that the shortfall was driven mainly by higher operational costs tied to special education third-party providers, including speech, occupational therapy, nurses and teachers. The item would authorize the superintendent or designee to submit the signed Form CEA and supporting justification materials to the county office of education.
The same agenda also asks trustees to ratify $85,840 in change orders for the 8357-Linda paving project. With a prior $4,900 change order, the cumulative total rises to $90,740, which the district says exceeds the original contract’s 10% change-order threshold of $84,950 by $5,790. The agenda says the additional work came from unforeseen site and project conditions and included items such as septic tank work, header board additions, earthwork repairs, a drywell, schedule impacts, a concrete ramp and handrail, and a reduction in fencing scope.
Elsewhere on the agenda, trustees are scheduled to review the district’s 2025-26 unaudited actuals, hear a presentation from the Yuba Water Agency on the Yuba River Watershed Curriculum, and consider a revised board bylaw that would set regular meetings for 5 p.m.
